ParentSupport 1As your child progresses through their education at Hall Meadow, the way they learn and how they are taught changes to reflect what they learn. Our job as a school however doesn’t stop within the perimeter of the building and we know that an increasing number of parents engage in their child’s learning experience at home.

To support and encourage parents to help their child needs the right types of information, we are using our website as the focus for that support and guidance for parents.

Parent Support2On the right you will find a series of links, one for each of the key areas of teaching and learning at Hall Meadow (English, Mathematics and Inquiry).

Within each of these areas you will discover how we support your child in class but, by visiting the “Approach” page, you will also you will be able to learn for yourself the best ways to help your child; the do’s and dont's and recommended ideas to make the most of home learning.

How we Teach & Learn

At Hall Meadow we aim to teach and learn the three Rs – Respect, Responsibility and Reflection. We aim to promote these in every aspect of our work.  The philosophy underpinning our work is to try and fully engage young minds so that they become interested in themselves, their future and the world around them.  Using the National Curriculum as a basis for our schemes of work, we organise learning into units that are delivered to the children through a series of themes such a ‘Keen to be Green’ or ‘Pirates’.

In recognition of the needs of different cohorts of pupils, these schemes of work evolve on an annual basis to meet the needs of the children.  We also run open themes each year such a ‘Your Choice’ and ‘Freedom’.  This allows the children to direct their own curriculum in accordance with their own interests.  Using an inquiry approach, the teachers carefully scaffold the children’s learning experience by focusing them on skills and attitudes necessary to sustain learning at all levels through their lives.  Lessons are taught either discretely as subjects or in areas such as the humanities depending on the intention of the lesson and the children’s next steps in learning.

We use a combination of rigor in teaching core skills and innovation and creativity to allow the children to fully participate in the learning process.  We actively encourage the children to assess and evaluate their progress and have developed cross curricular resources, linked to our themes, to help us with this.
