Welcome to Athena Class. I am really impressed with how every member of Athena class has settled into Year 4. We have had a really exciting first week of the term.

In science we are learning about Animals including Humans. On Thursday we learnt about the human digestive system. We went on the journey of an apple through the body. We used all the correct names for the organs and processes.

“I found it interesting that the small intestine looks really small when actually it is really long. It can go around our football field!”

In history we are learning about Romans in our topic Gladiators. To start the topic off we recreated a battle between the Romans and the Celts. The Romans travelled from Italy to Great Britain via a boat. After, we organised historic events into chronological order in groups.

In mathematics we have been learning place value within 4-digit numbers. Next week we will be solving problems using the skills we have developed this current week.

In Art and PHSE we have identified what makes us individual. We painted a stone with something that makes us unique. We cannot wait to see what they look like varnished!

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
