Science

This week we have started an experiment to answer the question “How do different liquids affect the enamel on our teeth?” We have used eggs to replicate our teeth because the shell of an egg has the same properties of the enamel on our teeth. We put 5 boiled eggs into cola, milk, orange juice, vinegar and blackcurrant squash. We worked in groups to organise the equipment, measure the liquid in ML and observe what happened. On Friday we will see what has happened to the shells of the eggs. We will keep you all posted!

Maths

Our focus this week has been solving problems using addition and subtraction skills. This included solving 2 mysteries! One group needed to use place value and addition to find the pencil thief! Another group needed to use place value and addition skills to total 100 on a grid.

History

We had a special guest in Athena class this week! We had a visit from Boudicca! She told us about the events in her life, then we re-enacted some of the events.

P4C

Our stimulus this week was images of the Earthquake in Mexico and Hurricane Irma. We explored what impact natural disasters have on different social groups in society. In groups the children created their own open ended questions to discuss. The highest voted question was
“Whose responsibility is it to help those who have been affected by the Earthquake in Mexico?”

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
