This week, a Roman pot was discovered in the playground! On Monday, we went to find the place where the pot was found. We decided it was so impressive that we needed to write a newspaper report to inform everyone of the amazing find! On Friday, we will publish our final articles in the Athena Gazette.

“It was such a coincidence that we had a Roman discovery! I really enjoyed writing about it as it felt special.”
“I enjoyed learning about articles as you can write an article about anything you like.”

In Maths, we have been learning all about Roman Numerals. Did you know that the number 0 had not been invented during the Roman times?

“I really liked learning Roman Numerals as I didn’t know anything about it. XL is 40. Romans always like the largest number first unless you are taking away for smaller numbers!”
“My favourite part was when we worked in teams to solve Roman Numeral problems.

In Science, we learnt about food chains which have a producer, prey and predator. We used ourselves to show the food chains and the passing of energy.

“I enjoyed it when learnt the key vocabulary.”
“It was interesting to see the food chains.”

Reminders-

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
