Demeter have enjoyed reading and writing poetry this week. We have looked at poems linked to autumn thinking about the smells, taste and things they might hear. The children really impressed us with their fantastic ideas for poetry and were even able to use rhyming words at the end of lines in their poems! We have been thinking about Anti-bullying this week and linked some of our poetry and PSHE to this. In Maths we have been thinking about time using the analogue clock for o’clock and half past. If you could support the children with this we would be very grateful thinking about where the big and hand and little hand go for o’clock, half past and quarter to and past if they are ready.

We have started to learn our nativity songs and today had our first rehearsal. The children are very excited to start rehearsing and performing to you all in December. Some children have lines to learn and any help with this would be appreciated.

Thank you to those parents that came to our ‘Come and Read’ session on Tuesday. The children really do enjoy reading with you at school and we enjoyed reading lots of stories with many of the children in the class.

Our Science this week enabled us to explore materials further thinking about their properties e.g. transparent, hard, soft, and opaque. The children had a fantastic understanding of some scientific vocabulary.

When you are out and about, it would be really helpful if you could discuss with the children whether things are natural or man-made as we have been working on this in our Science.

In History we looked at a picture by Breugel which showed different games played in the past. The children then had the opportunity to draw a picture of themselves playing a chosen game from the picture thinking about what they would have done in the past.

What Demeter had to say about their week:

Oliver – I enjoyed naming 3D shapes.
Sophie – I enjoyed doing our spellings.
Ellis – I have enjoyed practising with Mrs Hay.
Lots of us enjoyed starting our Nativity
Phonic sounds for this week: er, ear and air

Show and tell for next week: Please can the children bring in natural and man-made objects which links with our work in Science. The children need to be able to explain why the object is either natural or man-made.

  • The children have all had a letter about their costume for the nativity. Any problems please come and talk to one of us.
  • Please can you make sure you are recording daily reading at home in the children’s planners.
  • We have been learning about time and 3D shape in Maths. Any opportunities to ask the children what the time is (o’clock and half past) and to name and describe 3D shapes you have in the house would be really helpful.
  • The children have been given two letters this week about the pantomime and carol singing at the Christmas Fayre. If you haven’t received these please let us know (two letters left out in class – owner unknown).

How you can help!

  • PE day – Friday morning. Please remove earrings for these lessons and make sure girls have socks in their PE for when they are wearing tights at school.
  • Homework – due on Mondays
  • Spellings – tested on Thursday
  • Please have your book bag in school every day with all your books in your folder.

These web links may be of use to you to use at home with your child.
