Demeter has had another extremely busy week and have worked incredibly hard.  In English we have been writing in many different genres (stories, letters and instructions).  We started the week writing a story about Toys and what might happen if they came alive.  On Tuesday we wrote some exciting letters and are hoping that we get a reply later in December!  Our story writing has come on so much this term and all the adults are super proud of what we have done.  We retold the story of the Three Little Pigs and used some amazing adjectives.  On Thursday we were very excited to make a Christingle and wrote some instructions about how to make these.  See if the children can tell you what each part of the Christingle represents.  We hope that you enjoyed lighting the candle and eating the sweets!

In Maths, we have been practising our subtraction and adding and have even managed to draw our own number lines to add and subtract – WOW.   We have also been solving some problems about subtraction and the adults were very impressed with how well the children could solve the problems and use different resources to help them to answer the questions.  Some children even managed to write their own problem for the adults to solve!

Our Nativity rehearsals are in full swing and I am sure that the children have been singing some of our songs at home.  The children have been working really hard and we can’t wait to share it with you in December.  If your child has lines to learn we would be grateful if these could all be learnt by the beginning of next week.  Any problems with costumes then please let one of us know.  Letters and tickets will be sent home in the next week.

Phonics for this week: ure, oy, ir

Show and tell for next week:

  • We would love to see any photos of the Christingles that the children lit at home.
  • Drawing or writing about your favourite traditional tale with any ideas of how you could change parts to make it more interesting.

What Demeter had to say about their week –

Adan – I liked putting the sweets on my Christingle.

Archie, Zane and Risara – I enjoyed making the Christingle and putting the sweets on.

Elivia – I enjoyed everything in Demeter class this week.

Faisal – I have enjoyed playing with my friends and using the Lego and stickle bricks.

  • Please can the children bring in a teddy bear for our work in History on Wednesday?  If any parents/grandparents have a teddy from their child hood please can we borrow these in school, we promise we will look after them carefully.
  • Nativity costumes to be at school by Friday 1st December ready for our dress rehearsal the following week.
