In Literacy at the start of the week we did a fantastic job at planning our ideas about the journey of a pebble.

In maths at the start of the week we did some great work on statistics and answering questions about data.

Science, we tested rocks for - permeability, density and durability. We learnt about where different rocks come from.

Last week we constructed our hedgehogs out of clay to enable us to practice 'being' Max from the Hodgeheg and these look superb! Very unique and adorable - we will paint/coat these this week. Using these we were able to construct pieces of dialogue between characters in the book leading us onto looking at how to structure and punctuate dialogue.

In maths later on in the week we all tackled an NRICH problem 'fractional triangles' which was an open - ended investigation into looking at how we can divide a shape into parts and fractions of all sorts. We focused on finding 2 halves, 3 thirds, 6 sixths and 9 ninths. They were presented lovely and showed good reasoning in their solutions.

We also started to look at equivalent fractions, using diagrams for small denominators. This was challenging for most but we all showed super perseverance and most reached extension with all participating in a mastery challenge problem.

As it is our assembly on Monday at 3pm we have been working very hard on ensuring that it is perfect and have been sensibly practicing for you all.

Home Learning

Year 3 are given weekly homework that is set on a Wednesday and handed back in for marking on a Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Thursday. Throughout the year the type of work that they will be set will varying with each half term having a slightly different focus. MyMaths will be used at different points throughout the year as the set homework but is available all year round for extra practice.
