Welcome to Apollo

Welcome to Apollo Class!

Welcome to Apollo Class and welcome to Year 2. Thank you for being such an enormous part of the children’s learning journey at Hall Meadow and also for supporting their learning at home as well as at school.

Mrs Dickens is the Apollo Class Teacher and Mrs Evans, is a Higher-Level Learning Support Assistant working alongside Mrs Dickens. We are also really lucky to have additional adults supporting us in Apollo Class during the week. This includes Miss Watson (a 1-1 Support Assistant), Mrs Chadwick (a Learning Support Assistant) and Mr Muggleton, our Pacesetters Sports Coach, who teaches us PE once a week, on a Wednesday. Mrs Dickens teaches us PE on a Monday and we have our Spelling Challenges on a Friday.

We like to integrate lots of wellbeing activities into our day in Apollo, including time for a Go Noodle, time to be calm and mindful, time for some air massage using the Massage in Schools programme and time to think carefully about how to have a healthy body and a healthy mind. We build on the amazing work carried out in Reception and Year 1 and continue to work really hard to increase the children’s independence. We build skills such as independently editing and reviewing our own learning and thinking more about our next steps in learning. In Apollo Class we really love it when we see everyone being kind, helpful and respectful towards each other and when everyone is reading regularly at home. We aim to equip the children with the skills, attitudes and positive approach to learning that they will need to be effective learners for the rest of their time at school and ultimately for the rest of their lives.

We look forward to working together with you during the year and sharing all of the amazing progress that the children continue to make.

How you can help!

Telling the time is tricky!! We will be recapping on O'Clock and half past and also looking at quarter past.

we will be using what we know about how many seconds there are in a minute and how many minutes in an hour to solve simple word problems. Anything you can do to reinforce this at home will be helpful.

Talk about any plants we eat and which part of the plant we eat. Is it the leaf, the bulb, the stem or the flowers?
