Welcome to Ares

MarsAres

Welcome to Ares Class. This year, teaching will be led by Miss Smith and we have Mrs Davidson supporting us as a 1:1 support assistant. On Wednesday we are also lucky enough to have the support of Mrs Nunn and Mrs Townend joins us in the afternoon to teach French and RE.  In Ares, we will continue to develop our collaborative learning skills, where our class will be encouraged to apply the values of respect in all we do.

In English, we are developing our writing skills across all genres allowing us to become awe-inspiring authors, persuasive letter writers, perfect poets and remarkable reporters. We will further our knowledge of spoken language through developing presentations, performing pieces and creating adverts. We encourage the use of phonics knowledge and dictionaries to develop our spellings. It is important that all children practise their spellings at home to enhance these skills.

In Maths, we are building on all the skills we have learnt throughout previous years, particularly trying to develop our abilities in reasoning and problem-solving. We also often participate in maths investigations to help us dive deeper into our learning.

Within our wider curriculum we will be learning more about the world around us by becoming inquisitive explorers and scientists and conducting our own research. Additionally, we will channel our inner artists, sculptors and architects as we learn and practise art techniques and develop our own design projects.

PSHE is interwoven throughout the week to help us all adapt to our new routines and any issues we may face both at home and in school. This also includes strategies for us to help overcome challenges, deal with change and promote positive wellbeing.

Our PE sessions will be on Thursday and Friday, but kits should be kept in school throughout the whole term.

We look forward to working together with you during the year and sharing all of the amazing progress Ares Class makes.

How you can help!

Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to read widely and frequently. They should also be discussing their reading with an adult on a regular basis. They will be entered into a weekly reading lottery if they have read at least 3 times /week and have recorded it in their link diaries.

Ensuring that your child is fluent with their multiplication tables is also incredibly beneficial for them. There are lots of ways that these facts can be practiced; chanting, singing, games, apps, web sites or simply writing them out.
