Welcome to Poseidon

Welcome to Poseidon Class and welcome to Year 3!

Miss Bell teaches in Poseidon class but we are also very lucky to have Mrs Chadwick supporting our learning four mornings a week.

In Year 3, children are encouraged to continue building on their resilience and face challenges with a positive attitude.

Our PE days this year are Mondays and Thursdays and both will be taught by Miss Bell. On a Thursday afternoon, Mrs Townend teaches French and RE which is brilliant for the children  and their understanding of other cultures and beliefs.

Maths in Year 3 builds on what children have previously learnt, with an increase of emphasis on reasoning and explanation for answers. We begin looking at times tables in more detail in Year 3, ahead of testing in Year 4. Our Times Table Marathon Challenge takes place on a Friday and children are encouraged to be really proud of their efforts every week.

In English we cover a wide range of writing genres and phonic recall is regularly encouraged to help children progress in their spellings. Spellings are tested on a Friday and new spellings handed out then too.

Regular reading at home is hugely beneficial and we really do appreciate the support you give both the school and your children with the learning.

We hope that all of the children will enjoy this academic year and form great memories of their time in Year 3.

Home Learning

Please click on the documents below for ideas to support your child’s learning at home which includes a learning grid should your child need to isolate or we are advised to close.
