Hello Visitor,

"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." -- Joseph Addison

Welcome back to you all. The children have returned to Hall Meadow Primary School, positive, ready to learn and so very settled. Well done to all of them. We have been talking in assemblies this week about embracing the challenging and changes ahead. All of the children appear to be taking this on and with such a committed approach will achieve well this year.

We have had a busy summer holiday. I would like to provide you with a summary of events since the last update.

Curriculum priorities

As we reported in the summer term, the data at Hall Meadow School remained positive. We have now analysed this data and want to focus this year on reading across the school. We have several new initiatives which we will be starting in September. Mrs Renshaw will be leading on these initiatives, as Assistant Head teacher and Curriculum leader and will be communicating these to you in more detail.

  • Reading buddies
  • Extreme reading display
  • Volunteer readers.
  • Curriculum and resource review
  • Come and read with your child sessions.
  • Story telling sessions at lunchtimes.

In addition to this we have built into the calendar sessions where parents and carers can come into school to look at the children’s work. This will be an opportunity for the children to show you their work within the classroom environment.

In order to support the year 6 children with the preparation for SATs in May senior staff will have regular mentoring meeting with them in order to discuss areas which the children are confident with and areas which they would like to improve. This will be a great opportunity for the children to have support from other staff across the school this will start next Thursday.

As a school we are always looking at ways to increase our computing resources, this will continue through this academic year.

Buildings and maintenance

The new school hall flooring has been installed and looks amazing. It really makes the area look brighter. I do hope that you all get the opportunity to see this when you visits the school.

Our outside learning area, which PACT have supported has now beginning to develop. We have decided that this will take the shape of a Forest School. Over the next few months we will begin planting in this area. If parents have any contacts who would be interested in donating for this project then please contact the school office.

The Trim Trail is due to be repaired any day. We were hoping that this would be repaired over the summer however this was not possible. Please can I ask that the children are kept away from this before and after school until it is replaced.

School Calendar

I hope that you have all received the school calendar for the year. I do wish to apologise for the error with the Easter holiday dates and can confirm that these begin on Thursday 29th March and end on Friday 13th April. The school will then have two training days on Monday 16th April and Tuesday 17th April. The children will return on Wednesday 18th April. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. A new calendar will be sent out next week.

We will be following the school policy for attendance from September 2017. This means that absences from school will not be authorised unless outlined in the policy.

Could I please remind parents/carers that if you have a child in reception, year 1 or year 2 that they should not be left unsupervised in the playground in the mornings.
Could I also remind parents to be prompt in collecting children at the end of the day. If there is an emergency and you are held up in collecting your child, please try to contact the school office.

A reminder that if children have ear rings in school, these should only be one pair of stud earrings, these will need to be removed for any PE activity. If the child cannot remove them on their own then the will be sent to another classroom during the PE lesson.

  • Monday 11th September Induction evening for KS1 at 4.30pm.

  • Friday 22nd September 2017 Jeans for Genes Day-non uniform day.
