AssessmentAt Hall Meadow we recognise that talking to children about their work and ideas and marking their books provides one of the most effective means of assessing children's progress. We set challenges with children so that they can set high expectations of standards. Assessment forms an integral part of the teaching process. The children are regularly assessed to ensure that learning experiences and activities meet the needs of each individual child. All of our formative (ongoing) and summative (end of term/year) assessment procedures are outlined in curriculum policies which are available from the school. They essentially involve discussion, practical work, observation of pupils, screening of work, test papers and ICT presented material at the end of each study unit. We encourage the children to be as involved as possible in the assessment and evaluation of their own performance. The outcomes of assessment are used to celebrate achievements and take the children to the next step of their learning.

Link Diaries, Weekly P.A.T.H. (Parent and Teacher Hour) sessions, Parental Consultation events and Pupil Profiles are a means of informing parent / carers about their child's progress. Pupils from Year 2 through to Year 6 take optional and Standard Assessment Tasks. We consider 'personal reflection' to be an important part of the assessment process. Children are encouraged regularly to evaluate their own learning.
