Children in the Early Years follow the 'Foundation Curriculum' where they develop their personal, communicative, language, mathematical, physical, scientific, technological and expressive skills in an active and creative way.

At Key Stage One and Two, in addition to the core areas of English and mathematics which are taught on a daily basis, we also teach a range of other subjects which include: The Humantities (history, geography and religious education, French); Science and Technology (science, design technology and communication technology); The Creative and Performing Arts (music, art and physical education).

We use as inquiry learning as an over arching approach and integrate opportunities for choice and the development of attitudes and personal and social development across all areas. All subjects are taught under the umbrella of a theme and cross curricular connections are encouraged at all times. For one term in each year, the children are given free choice about the curriculum that they follow. Children's learning is scaffolded around an inquiry approach and they are given the opportunity to pursue their own interests in response to the questions that they have.

Because we run a slightly longer day, we also run an Extension Curriculum. Our vision of education is to promote self direct, self sustaining life-long learning. The Extension Curriculum furthers this objective as it enables children to pursue subjects at greater depth. This is an opportunity for the children to learn in a mixed age setting where they are encouraged to share feelings, ideas and resources. Children are also given the opportunity to extend their sports, art, drama, language or music skills in relation to areas that are considered school development priorities.

In line with the current 'National Curriculum' requirements, we aim to:

  • Provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve
  • Promote pupil's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development,
  • Prepare all of our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of life

Extra Curricular Activities

The children are given many opportunities to participate in extra curricular activities. These may be offered as a clubs or as curriculum enrichment activities during the school day. The clubs that are available before or after school include: basket ball, freestyle soccer, netball, multi-skills, gymnastics, taekwon-do, chess and dance. During the day, the children can also access music tuition for violin, cello, guitar, a brass instrument and recorder.

As part of our curriculum enrichment program there are a whole range of events that broaden the children's experience. There are day workshops for area such as thinking skills, design technology. We host an annual business year where the children develop their entreprenurial skills by developing a product to sell. There are also many themed days such as art or food from other cultures, learning styles or an area linked to our International Schools work. Premised on the traditions of Christianity, all of the children regularly participate in fun workshops linked to their moral and spiritual develoment. They also benefit from visiting tutors and coaches who focus on improving their games skills. When the opportunity presents, key stage two children are given a terms experinece of playing a new instrument. This is intended to engage their interest in learning an instrument over an extended period of time.

We are always looking to develop extra curricular opportunities for the children. In the past our parent community have run after school clubs such as craft, homework, cookery and sign language. We are always looking to enrich the children's learning experience so if you have a particular skill that you would be willing to share with the children please let us know.
