This week we had a very special visitor in class. As we are learning about how humans grow and change, Mrs Meeks brought in her baby boy to talk to the children about how babies grow and change as they grow older. We learnt that babies need lots of love and attention and need to rely on their parents to look after them. They enjoy drinking milk and as they grow, they begin to taste new foods. Mrs Meeks’ baby enjoyed nibbling on a biscuit using his gums and made us giggle with his babbling sounds.

Oliver P: “This week we have been thinking about how humans and animals grow.”

In Maths this week we have been learning our number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. We have also been using the dienes to split numbers into hundreds, tens and units.

Mishal: “We have been counting forwards and backwards.”

Darcey: “We have also used number lines to help us count from 0-100.”

Wow! What a fantastic week we have had in English. The children have been working hard to ensure they remember all of their capital letters and full stops and even impressed Mrs Donald by adding in some adjectives and similes into their writing. Well done, Apollo class!

Isla: “This week we have been writing poems and learning how to thank God for Harvest time.”

Jessica: “We have learnt a song all about Harvest.”

Please ensure that all homework is completed and handed in on a Monday. It is the children’s responsibility on a Monday morning to get their homework out of their book bags and place it into the homework box.

How you can help!

  • PE days are Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school (clearly labelled) and remove any earrings.
  • Homework is due on a Monday. It is the children’s responsibility to make sure that their homework is completed every week and placed into the homework box on a Monday morning in order for it to be marked.
  • Spelling tests are on a Monday morning and the following week’s spellings will be handed out on the same day.

Home Learning

Here are some activities that you can do at home:

  • Keep practising our ‘Harvest Samba’ song

  • This week we have been trying really hard to extend our sentences and make them a little bit longer. Can you practise writing sentences using conjunctions? Conjunctions are words that join sentences together like ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’.
  • Here is a useful website to help practise spellings each week. Spell Zone has a range of games which link to the children’s spelling rule for each week. Why don’t you try the word search or have a go at the bouncing anagrams?
