Stained Glass Windows

In RE this week we have been learning about the different features and symbols that we might find in a church; candle, pulpit, alter, cross, lectern, stained glass window, pews, organ and a font. As part of our learning, we created our very own stained glass windows using lots of creative materials.

Number Lines

In Maths this week we have been practising how to add two 2-digit numbers on a number line.

1. Adam - First we have to split the number into tens and units.
2. Zachary - Then we draw our number line.
3. Vihaan - We add the jumps of ten.
4. Kenzie - Then we do smaller jumps after to add the units.
5. Maisie - Then you write all of your numbers down so you get the right answer.
6. Taylor - Finally, you write the answer into the number sentence.

Keeping Clean

This week in Science we have been looking carefully at how to keep ourselves clean.

Descriptive Writing

In English this week, we have been learning how to write descriptively using adjectives, similes, expanded noun phrases, personification and using our senses to describe how something looks, feels, sounds and smells. We were using a picture of a setting for inspiration, creating a bank of adventurous vocabulary and then using our notes to write sentences using conjunctions and different sentence starters.

Parent Consultations

Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Consultation evenings this week, it was lovely to sit down and meet with you all. The children have all settled really well into Year 2 and have been working extremely hard. They’ve had a really busy first term in Apollo class so I think they are all ready for a well-earned rest over half term.

How you can help!

  • PE days are Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school (clearly labelled) and remove any earrings.
  • Homework is due on a Monday. It is the children’s responsibility to make sure that their homework is completed every week and placed into the homework box on a Monday morning in order for it to be marked.
  • Spelling tests are on a Monday morning and the following week’s spellings will be handed out on the same day.

Home Learning

Here are some activities that you can do at home:

  • Keep practising our ‘Harvest Samba’ song

  • This week we have been trying really hard to extend our sentences and make them a little bit longer. Can you practise writing sentences using conjunctions? Conjunctions are words that join sentences together like ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’.
  • Here is a useful website to help practise spellings each week. Spell Zone has a range of games which link to the children’s spelling rule for each week. Why don’t you try the word search or have a go at the bouncing anagrams?
