This term we have jumped into Jamaica by using our reading skills to research lots of facts about the Caribbean island of Jamaica. We also made 3D maps from paper mache of some of the islands near to Jamaica and used this to practise our geographical language.

As part of our computing, we used our technology skills to take photographs of our maps, making sure the pictures were in focus and that the subject was in the centre of the frame. Then we learnt how to download the pictures onto the computer and make choices about the best quality picture.

We are looking forward in the next couple of week to welcoming a Caribbean cook, who will be answering our questions about Jamaica and selling some of his authentic dishes after school on the playground.

In maths we have been looking at the relationship between multiplication and division and learning different strategies for calculations

How you can help!

  • PE days are Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school (clearly labelled) and remove any earrings.
  • Homework is due on a Monday. It is the children’s responsibility to make sure that their homework is completed every week and placed into the homework box on a Monday morning in order for it to be marked.
  • Spelling tests are on a Monday morning and the following week’s spellings will be handed out on the same day.

Home Learning

Here are some activities that you can do at home:

  • Keep practising our ‘Harvest Samba’ song

  • This week we have been trying really hard to extend our sentences and make them a little bit longer. Can you practise writing sentences using conjunctions? Conjunctions are words that join sentences together like ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’.
  • Here is a useful website to help practise spellings each week. Spell Zone has a range of games which link to the children’s spelling rule for each week. Why don’t you try the word search or have a go at the bouncing anagrams?
