This week began with finding out about the children’s authors Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

We looked at some of the books the couple have written including Peepo, Burglar Bill, Funny bones and the Happy Family series. We used the books to do book reviews and also looked in detail at the characters and settings in the books, comparing them and using a range of interesting language.

Bradley said that his favourite character was Master Salt from “Master Salt the Sailor.”

In maths we have been finding fractions. We found out that to find half of an amount you divide by 2. We also found out that to find a quarter of a number, you can either divide by 4 or find half and half again. With larger numbers we had to partition them and find half of the tens and half of the ones, then re combine them. You can practise this using the website

In Science we set up a “fair Test” to see if seeds need soil or not . A big thank you to Harry’s mum and Darcey’s mum for donating some of the materials we needed.

Next week we are running a writing project and the children started off some ideas this week by designing and sketching a companion for a lonely robot in Art.

Keep practising spellings for 5 minutes every night so that they stay in your memory for ever and not just for Friday!!

How you can help!

  • PE days are Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school (clearly labelled) and remove any earrings.
  • Homework is due on a Monday. It is the children’s responsibility to make sure that their homework is completed every week and placed into the homework box on a Monday morning in order for it to be marked.
  • Spelling tests are on a Monday morning and the following week’s spellings will be handed out on the same day.

Home Learning

Here are some activities that you can do at home:

  • Keep practising our ‘Harvest Samba’ song

  • This week we have been trying really hard to extend our sentences and make them a little bit longer. Can you practise writing sentences using conjunctions? Conjunctions are words that join sentences together like ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘but’ and ‘so’.
  • Here is a useful website to help practise spellings each week. Spell Zone has a range of games which link to the children’s spelling rule for each week. Why don’t you try the word search or have a go at the bouncing anagrams?
