This week we have been doing some creative and descriptive writing using the short film clip “Origins.” We used the film clip to help us think about the senses and have written some really impressive setting descriptions, using a range of devices such as expanded noun phrases, similes and higher level conjunctions.

In maths we have consolidated our work on the features of 2D and 3D shapes and have applied our learning using a “Mastery approach.” We have used what we know to solve puzzles and problems such as sorting shapes by different criteria and using our reasoning and explaining to say how we know.

In Science we carried out a Fair test to see what happened when we melted chocolate to make a hot drink. We learnt how to do 4 different tests and only changed one thing and we learnt how to measure temperature and make observations. We made predictions about what we thought would happen and Some of us were able to draw conclusions using scientific language. We also re-capped on our Maths learning from last term by measuring out liquid in ml and checking weight of objects in grams.

A huge thank you to those of you who were kind enough to donate resources to make this possible. The children certainly enjoyed tasting the results!

How you can help!

  • Application of knowledge of number bonds to calculate beyond pairs of numbers to 30
  • Quick recall division and multiplication facts based on the 2,5,and 10 times tables but also using known facts to calculate unknown ones eg if 2 x 5 = 10 what does 2 x 50 = ?
  • Picking out important information in word problems and comprehensions
  • Reading longer texts and looking deeper into key themes and characterisation
  • Making links between books we have read
  • Using inference and deduction and showing an understanding of what we read to answer questions about a text

Home Learning

  • Daily 10
  • Reading at least 3 x a day
  • Re-telling the events or facts from what you have read
