This week Apollo have presented their homework projects all about “Faith”. We have leant lots of new information and have been very impressed with some of the hard work put into the projects. The children enjoyed sharing their learning with the class.

In English, we have been drawing together all the information we have found out about Kettering to make leaflets. We will be sending the leaflets to children in schools in other parts of the world, so that they can learn all about the features of the place that we call home. We have learnt how to use statements, questions and commands in our information writing and how to write using sentences which persuade people to visit. We have also used pictures, captions and headings to organise our information.

When we looked back at our work form the beginning of the term, we could see how much progress we have made in our writing this term and that made us very proud. Everyone has worked extremely hard to improve the presentation of their writing and has also worked hard to include all the things we have been learning in our writing. Our recounts of our visit into Kettering last week particularly highlighted the progress we have made when comparing them to the recounts we wrote about Wicksteed Park in week 2.

In Maths, we have been learning about how to add and subtract 2- digit numbers by jumping forwards or backwards on the number line in steps of ten and ones. This is a vital skill for calculation and can be found in our schools Maths Policy on our website. Being able to calculate in this manner, demonstrates an understanding of Place Value, which builds a firm foundation for mental addition and subtraction. We have been using the 100 square to help us remember how to jump up or down in steps of 10, starting on any number and have also been using the interactive game “Splat” to do this on the computer.

On Wednesday, our local PCSO visited us in assembly to talk about safety during the celebrations of Bonfire Night and Halloween. Ask your child to recall some of the things he talked about, so that they can be mindful of these things during the half term break.

Have fabulous half term break and we will see you refreshed and ready for learning on Monday 4th November.

How you can help!

Spend some time looking at the Common Exception Words for Year 2. The children will need to know how to read and spell all of these by the end of Year 2.

Practise pairs of numbers which make 10 or 20 if you fancy a challenge. For example 7 + ? = 10.

Talk to your child about the faith of your family and explore their views and opinions about it. Alternatively, you could choose a faith to explore and find out about.

Practise the spelling pattern of the week - maybe even find other words with the pattern which are not on the list
