Welcome back Ares class, I hope you all had a lovely half term break. I am looking forward to all the exiting learning happening this half term!

Our new topic area in English is Poetry. We created our own Autumn poems using descriptive writing techniques. Here is an example of sound lines we included in our poems.
“All the beautiful autumn walks, I’m climbing a tree while my mum talks”
“The autumn clothes are out, the kettle is on”
“Pumkin carving is not a bore”
“crispy orange leaves dance through fields”

This week we have been learning how to complete grid multiplication. Once we learnt the method, we solved an investigation.

This week’s lesson focused on the different theories about the shape of Earth. Some theories say that the Earth is flat, while others argue it is sphere. We examined the different evidence and argue what the most convincing theory was. We all decided the evidence for a sphere shaped Earth was the most reliable based on modern technology. Most of the Flat Theory ideas about the shape of the Earth dated back to Ancient Greek times.

How you can help!

Year 5 are given weekly homework that is set on a Thursday and handed back in for marking on the following Wednesday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test focusing on times tables will be twice a week. Reading a vital skill, please ensure you are listening to your child read and reading to them on a regular basis.
