FRENCH: We were given a picture and we had to copy the sentence about the drawing. We were also doing our French sound it was spelled like oi. We also listened to our French teacher tell us a French story called the little princess English and French we tried to draw the main character.

Maths: This week we have been doing line graphs and other charts, such as bar graphs and pie charts. We have made a poster about how to use a graph and when. We found out that if you wanted to find out more information you could use a line graph or you could be specific and use a pie or bar graph.

Science: This week we have been learning all about tectonic plates and what they are. They are all of the jigsaw pieces that make up the Earth’s crust. They are all floating on the second layer of the Earth called the Mantle. Our teacher, Mrs Perks, brought in some custard and biscuits to demonstrate how the tectonic plates move and collide with each other!

Physical education: This week Mr Bates has taught everyone about fencing and what to do in a duel. we learnt all about defending yourself but also attacking the opponent. We used a sword type weapon called a foil with a little black flat bit on the end so nobody got injured. We learnt that it is a good strategy to lunge when you attack.

How you can help!

Year 5 will be given weekly homework that is set on a Friday and handed back in for marking by the following Thursday. This consists of an English or topic task and a Maths task based on the learning in class that week. The children will also be given weekly spellings to learn, which will be tested on a Friday.

Home Learning

Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to read widely and frequently. They should also be discussing their reading with an adult on a regular basis.

Ensuring that your child is fluent with their multiplication tables is also incredibly beneficial for them. There are lots of ways that these facts can be practiced; chanting, singing, games, apps, web sites or simply writing them out.
