In Ares class we have had an exiting week so far by working our brains hard with tricky maths and drafting letters, not forgetting our exercise and even winning class of the week in [P.E]. Read on to find out about the rest of our exciting week!

Maths

In maths this week we have been mostly focusing on fractions. We ordered and compared fractions. We also have to keep the denominators, (the bottom number of a fraction) a multiple of the same number.

On Thursday we had to memorise this in our heads; the numerator is the number of parts we have and the denominator is the number parts the whole is divided into.

Example: ¼ =1 part of a whole one which has been divided into 4 equal parts. We also learnt that equivalent means equals.

FRENCH

In French this week we were learning about the days of the week [ in French]. Such as; lundi, mardi, mecredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi and dimanche.

Soon after we learnt that C’est…= it is and Aujourd’hui…. C’est= Today it is

Example: Aujourd C’est…lundi

As you are wondering the French language you don’t need to put capital letters for the days of the week as we.

Physical Education

In P.E [physical education] this week we have been mostly focusing on the topic multi-skills so far over the term we have done some dancing, boccia, Dodgeball, bench ball and curling. And we take pride by winning the class of the week trophy!

English

In English this week, we have been drafting our letters to the local animal shelter. We are going to let them know that we are hoping to receive a visit from them as one of our pledges. Also, we hope to find a class pet, using our cake sale money.

We planned our letter into an introduction and 4 paragraphs. We did a draft where we wrote our letter and then on Friday we edited and made it perfect. Next week we hope to write it up in best and send it to the animal shelter.

Aztecs

In Geography this week we have been learning about volcanoes that just recently been erupted. Our lovely teacher Mrs Perks allowed us have a bit of fun by doing a bit of an experiment with the water tap!

We also learnt about what happens inside a volcano when it erupts and this experiment resulted in getting a bit wet! This was to show the pressure built up and to show the volcano eventually erupted. Of course, this is a tap and the water sprayed on quite a few of the children.

How you can help!

Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to read widely and frequently. They should also be discussing their reading with an adult on a regular basis. They will be entered into a weekly reading lottery if they have read at least 3 times /week and have recorded it in their link diaries.

Ensuring that your child is fluent with their multiplication tables is also incredibly beneficial for them. There are lots of ways that these facts can be practiced; chanting, singing, games, apps, web sites or simply writing them out.
