This week in Science we have been learning about the human digestive system. We named the organs involved in the digestive process and found about what their role.

“I liked learning about the digestive system as I didn’t know how food was digested and I know lots of new words! We even found out what phalanges are!”

In Art this week we have been learning about mosaics, we looked at pictures of different mosaics from the Roman times. We then created our own mosaic pattern.

“I found out that mosaics are not popular anymore”

“I enjoyed making my own mosaic”

We have continued to focus on stories with a dilemma in English. This week we have read Balaclava boy. We analysed and highlighted the key features of the story. On Thursday we thought of questions we could ask George to see how he felt and question why he stole the balaclava through hot seating. We used the key theme of stealing to create open ended questions in P4C.

In history we conducted an inquiry into the Roman Ruling System. Each group had a focus of either Emperors, Kings or Republic. They worked as a team to find out all about their focus. The groups presented their information in very different ways. At the end of the lesson we held a class vote on the ruling systems... the Emperors won Athena class’ vote.

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
