On Tuesday’s English lesson Athena Class completed a Drama for Writing lesson with Ms Gilbert. Ms Gilbert read a text Mousehole Cat. In small groups we acted out scene where children were playing on the beach, fishermen fishing and or a bakers making bread. Then we continued the scene when a storm hit! The wind swirlled, thunder roared and waves crashed! During the thunder storm scene we used freeze frames to explore feelings and thoughs.

This week we have been learning to use a number line for subtraction. Next week we will be solving addition and subtraction problems.

This week our P4C focus was a question we created based on the text Balaclava Boy.

“Should we ever steal to be in a gang?”

We explored what the consequences and benefits could be of stealing to join a gang. The discussion moved onto what the definiton what a ‘gang’ is. Should friends make us do something that is wrong? How would the victim feel? What is the difference between friends and gangs? Is it ever ok to steal?

This week’s key skill/attitude for inquiry: Communicative

How you can help!

These websites will help to support your child’s learning:

BBC Education Site

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
