This week in Athena class we have been very busy!

In Mathematics, we have been learning to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. To do this we used a place value grid and Numicon. On Friday we will be using what we have learnt to solve problems!

In English, we have been learning how to use punctuation correctly. We had to fix sentences and paragraphs which were missing punctuation or fix incorrect punctuation. Then, we moved onto our new topic which is ‘Persuasive writing’. We used the acronym ‘AFOREST’ to learn the key features- See if someone from Athena Class can tell you what the features are!

“I enjoyed looking at the different adverts and finding the features because we worked together. It was a challenge to find them”
“We learnt that adverts want to persuade you do to or buy something! Be careful!”

Science this week focused on switches. We built a circuit using a switch. Then we investigated what other materials we could use for a switch.

“I used two paper clips because they are conductors and I could break the circuit”

Athena class have been busy making Christmas tree decorations to sell at the Christmas Fair.

We look forward to seeing you there.

How you can help!

These websites will help to support your child’s learning:

Please ensure that your child reads every evening and signs the Link Diary. It is still really important to hear them read regularly. We are hoping that all of the children will know their all of their times tables by July. 5 minutes practice a day is the best approach. Spelling is a real target for improvement in our class so any extra practise will really help

Home Learning

Year 4 are given weekly homework that is set on a Tuesday and handed back in for marking on the following Monday. This consists of an English activity and a Maths activity. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn, which are tested on a Friday. The mental maths test will be on a Thursday morning; this will consist of either times tables or number bonds.
