We have had a fantastic week in Athena.

In English, we begun our poetry topic and have started to look at the different types of descriptive language that is used by poets. So far, we have explored similes, adjectives and prepositional phrases. Next week, we will be looking at metaphors.

In maths, we are carrying on with exploring the topic of multiplication and division. This week, we have been practising our seven and nine times tables and we have begun to understand and apply commutative law. Next week, we will be practising the bus stop method for division.

As part of our science topic this term, we carried out a sound walk around the school to identify the sounds that could be heard in different parts of the school. The children had to be silent for nearly the whole session and couldn’t wait to talk and make some noise by the end.

In geography, we looked at the eight different compass points in preparation for our topic on the United Kingdom. The children really enjoyed the session because they had to direct their partner to various places on a map using a range of compass points.

Finally, in art and design, the children investigated the life and works of the surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, and they created a leaflet that could be understood by their friends in year three.
