Welcome back. Hope you all had a lovely and restful spring break.

During our first week back at school, the children have spent time exploring and researching the islands of New Zealand. This country has been chosen as our class country for the forthcoming sports day.

To help us increase our knowledge, we were fortunate enough to speak to Mrs Hayes son, who is currently staying in New Zealand. He explained that, whilst it was nine o’clock in the morning in Kettering, it was actually eight o’clock in the evening in New Zealand. He was also able to show us that it was dark and raining outside in New Zealand because it is winter there. We then compared it to our lovely summer morning in Kettering. We finished our conversation by wishing him a good evening rather than good morning.

We have also been learning the haka this week and the children have all transformed themselves into fierce Maori warriors.

During the week, we also began to look at our inquiry topic for this term, which is plastic pollution. To inspire the children, we have already begun to look at various aspects of plastic pollution so that the children can decide on which area they would like to explore further.

In maths, we are continuing to develop our skills in telling the time and we are currently learning to convert digital times to analogue times.

Finally, in science, the children learnt all about endangered species as part of our ‘living animals and habitats’ topic. This lesson linked well with our plastic pollution enquiry as it has encouraged the children to think about how changes to the environment are affecting the natural world and wildlife.

Mrs Sanderson would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the supply of cakes and to thank the family, friends and carers of year four children for taking the time to attend our joint VE party before half term. We really hope that you enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.

The children are also given weekly spellings to learn which are tested on a Thursday. Throughout the year the type of work that they will be set will varying with each half term having a slightly different focus.
