Athena were welcomed back to school this week with a first day that had a volcano theme! We read the picture book “Escape from Pompeii” and considered what Pompeii was like before the volcano erupted and how it would have felt to be witnessing the eruption. We used our sketching skills to create a drawing of a volcano and tried to catch the movement and explosive qualities of eruptions.

In maths, we have had a focus on our investigating skills thinking about being logical, systematic and clear in our explanations. We had fun (and some frustration) when swapping our frogs and toad on their lily pads.

We began our history topic, The Romans, by exploring how the Roman Empire expanded across time and which countries became part of the growing empire.

We were very impressed with the confidence that the children displayed this week with lots of children giving their opinions and sharing their ideas with the class.
