Athena class had a thoroughly enjoyable World Book Day! A big thank you to everyone for their support - the children looked amazing as explorers and various animals.

We started the day with a 'Secret Reader'. The children had a choice of various books from 'Who let the Gods out' to 'The Cat in the Hat' to 'Leon and the place between' but did not know who was going to be reading which book!

Following this, Athena class set about investigating and reading 'The Great Kapok Tree'. We became the animals in the story who try desperately to stop the human cutting down their beloved tree. We also used the book as inspiration for making our own board games which we got try out.

In maths this week we begun to look at fractions and building on our knowledge from last year. We will be continuing fractions next week thinking about equivalent fractions and the concept of improper fractions.

Continuing our rainforest theme, in geography this week we compared Sherwood Forest with the Amazon rainforest. We discovered that there were some similarities especially the importance of the ecology of both.

How you can help!

Homework will be handed in on a Tuesday and usually marked and sent back on the Wednesday.

Spellings will be given out at the beginning of a half term and tested each Friday.

Please can the children make sure that they have their reading books in their bag every day. Your child will have an independent reading book closely matched to their independent reading level but they are also able to choose a library book or a free choice book from school or bring in a book from home.
