Our text this week has been The Little Red Hen. The children have acted out the story thinking about the expression to use. They have retold the story and written a letter to the Little Red Hen. In Maths we have been using different resources to add together two numbers remembering to put the biggest number first. We have been really impressed with the children’s ability to use a number line to add – amazing work Demeter. It would be helpful if you can work with the children to learn their number bonds to 10 – number bonds are two numbers that can be added together to make 10 e.g. 9+1, 5+5. We will be doing more work on this over the next term.

In Art this week the children have drawn self-portraits thinking about where to position the features on their faces. In Science the children enjoyed sorting animals using a chart or a Venn diagram. The children were able to think of their own headings for the sorting – fantastic. In Geography we enjoyed looking at a map and finding different places that we had visited. We then made comparisons between Kettering and Edinburgh.

This week the children had to say:

‘We have been learning about adjectives’ – Claudia
‘I have enjoyed doing my spellings because i have got them all right’ – Oliver
‘I love maths’ - Hannah
‘I like doing the boxes in the mornings’ – Adan
‘I like doing the numbers bonds using numicon to help me’ – Sara
‘I like playing on the trim trail now it has been fixed’ - Maya

Phonic sounds learnt this week: nk, ng and ch

  • Please can all children bring in a reading book to share with their buddy on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Show and tell – can the items that the children bring fit in their book bags if at all possible.
  • Please make sure you sign the planners to show when the children have read at home.
  • We will be starting to close the blinds in the mornings so that the children can settle to their morning activity as quickly as possible.

Another amazing week in Demeter class. We have been focusing hard on the children’s listening skills and they have been trying really hard with this. Well done to you all.
