This week we have been learning all about 2D shapes. We have named them and described them by their properties and have managed to use some new fantastic words (vertices, parallel, horizontal, vertical, edges) see if your child can tell you what these words mean! We had fun using chalk outside to draw pictures using different shapes.

In Literacy we read the story Three Friends Together which gave us lots of opportunities to think about how we can make sure we are a good friend and don’t leave others out. We have written about the story and described the characters using adjectives.

In Geography we have been finding out about the weather in different parts of the United Kingdom and looked at the symbols used in a weather forecast. It would be great if the children could watch the weather forecast at home and discuss the different symbols.

In Art they enjoyed drawing a self-portrait looking carefully at the different features on their faces.

This week Demeter had the following to say about their week:

Adan ‘ I liked doing Art and drawing my face.’
William ‘I liked doing my homework and writing my numbers.’
Maya ‘ I liked drawing my hair art.’
Theo ‘I enjoyed sorting the shapes into a Venn diagram.’
Sophie ‘I enjoyed practising adding numbers together.’
Eva ‘I liked looking at the 2D shapes.’

Phonics for this week were: ai, ee and igh

A few reminders:

  • If the children are bringing in toys for playtime, please make sure they fit in their book bags and then their book bag can fit in their drawer. The toys need to be appropriate for using outside with their friends encouraging them to play together in a calm and respectful way.
  • There will be a spelling test next week but not the first week back after half term.
  • We look forward to seeing you all at parents evening next week.

Thank you for another fantastic week of learning Demeter. We have a bell in the class that the children can ring if they do well and we have heard it so many times for some excellent listening, being kind and hard working. Well done.
