What a fantastic term Demeter have had and how quickly it has gone! It has been lovely seeing you all at parents evening this week and we are really pleased with how well the children have settled in and how much progress they have already made in Demeter class. Thank you for all of your support.

In Literacy this week we have been learning about instructions as well as completing some independent writing. Mrs Powell, Miss Gilbert and Mrs Hay have been blown away with the quality of the writing produced – fantastic work Demeter. In Numeracy we have been using the take away sign and using different resources to help us subtract including a number. There has been some brilliant and accurate counting on the number line.

Throughout the week we have been completing our topics for this year and assessing how much the children have learnt and remembered. They have clearly enjoyed the topics that we have done and have remembered so much fantastic information. In Art the children were a bit shocked to see a photo of them had been cut in half but had great fun using their drawing skills to draw the other side of their faces.

Phonics for this week: oo, oo, oa

What did Demeter have to say about their week:

Olivia – I enjoyed using my book for maths writing my subtraction sums.
Ruvimbo – I enjoyed learning my spellings and my spelling test.
Rosa – I liked writing about what I have learnt this term.
Gracie and Kenrick– I like maths and counting.
Adan – I liked using the instruments to tell the story of the Hungry Caterpillar.
Maya – I enjoyed listening to the caterpillar story in Music.

A few things:

  • There will be no homework over the holiday but please continue to read as much as you can and record in their planner. Homework and spellings will be given out on the first week back.
  • Please can the children bring in their favourite toy to begin our History topic about Toys on Tuesday 31st October.
  • After half term in Maths we will be learning about money. If you could provide opportunities for them to use money and recognise coins it would be extremely helpful.
Show and tell for the first week back will be about their half term and after that each week will have a focus that will be shared on the blog.

Sadly Brooke will be leaving us this term, we wish her the best of luck in her new school.

Thank you for working so hard this term Demeter, we are all really proud of everything you have done. We hope you have a fantastic half term and we look forward to another term of hard work and focus and lots of ringing the bell for doing well.
