This week in Maths we have been learning about time. Everyone has been super learners and they have blown Miss Smith’s socks off with their ability to tell the time and the progress they have made throughout the week. We are now all able to tell the time to o’clock and half past, most of us can tell the time to quarter to and past! Some of us were even able to answer word problems and write our own word problems for others to answer! What super stars!

In English this week, we have continued to look at stories and how to write a story well. The children have been describing a setting and pictures which they have been able to use in their main story. The children have had some fabulous ideas to use in their story.

We watched an exciting video in History looking at the moon landing. We used this video and our previous learning to write a newspaper article about the moon landing and Neil Armstrong’s life.

In Science, we have been conducting lots of experiments about plants. We have finished our observations of our beans that have been growing (especially Eva’s) and we completed our bean diary. We have checked on how our cress have been growing and seeing what they need to grow. We observed that the plants definitely need water to grow and that they grow better with sunlight. We have also carried out another experiment looking at how plants drink water. We put celery and daffodils in water with food dye in it and we could see the colour travelling up the plants.

In Art we explored the primary and secondary colours. We created our own colour wheel flower on a paper plate. We all enjoyed using the paints this week.

We have had some wonderful show and tell pieces this week; especially Luke’s where he made 2 stop motion videos at home. We loved watching these and we really enjoyed them. Well done Luke for your hard work.

Our chicks are now getting very big and are starting to get their adult feathers. We love having them in our classroom and have been super sensible around them. The chickens go back to the farm they came from on the 23rd March as they are getting too big for Demeter class. These chicks will either be layers or be sold for pets. We will all miss our chicks.

Thank you to all the parents who came to the ‘look at my book’ evening. It was lovely to see so many of you coming to visit Demeter class.

Note from Miss Smith: This week is my last week at Hall Meadow. I will be going back to University to finish my Degree and will be graduating in July. I have had a wonderful time with Demeter class and have learnt so much both from the children and the staff. Thank you to the children for being such a lovely class to work with and I will miss being in Demeter class!
