We came into a very quiet Demeter Class on Monday as the Chicks have moved to their new home.

This is our last week in ‘Space’....... I wonder where we will be when we return after our Easter break? To help us out if children would like to make shells, seaweed or sea creatures (A4 size no bigger) over the Easter break that would be lovely. We had some brilliant contributions for our space theme.

This week in Maths we have looked at sorting 2D and 3D shapes into Venn Diagrams. We looked closely at the properties, using accurate vocabulary and sorted them into difference categories. We have also practised our days of the week and months of the year.

On Wednesday we enjoyed Global Learning Day. Ms Gilbert brought with her a big bag of sticks. The children were not sure what we would be doing. We spent the first part of the morning exploring ‘When is a stick not a stick?’ What wonderful ideas the children had, turning their sticks into wands, broomsticks, fishing rods, musical instruments, swords, rulers, water bottles etc. We then looked at some optical illusions. What could we see in each picture? Could we see both things or just one? Even Ms Gilbert and Mrs Hay struggled with some of them. What was your favourite? The children then produced some amazing written work when they were just given a picture as stimulus. Very creative and imaginative work. In the afternoon we thought about our values and what mattered to us. Inspired by Henri Matisse we tore paper hearts and wrote what was important to us on them. Using the sticks from the morning we created a natural collage in the shape of a heart.

We look forward to seeing how the children’s sunflowers have grown. Who can grow the tallest one? All the reading books have been taken in and PE kits sent home. Usual reminders about suitable clothing and footwear for outside PE and all items to be named.

Just a reminder that Tuesday 17th April is our parent consultation day. Please check your time slips and we look forward to seeing you then and discussing your child’s progress.
