Something strange had happened to our school when we returned after half term...

The main corridor had turned into the sea, there was a shark in the hall!! A submarine was diving on the hall window and a mermaid’s tail was peeping out from behind the curtain. This was the start of a whole school project all about ‘Under the sea’. The children had an early morning assembly on Tuesday morning where they learnt what would be happening this week, and later on today we are all sharing our adventures as a whole school assembly.

In Demeter we were introduced to Dougal who is Bob’s cousin from last term. We learnt Dougal is a deep sea diver and we have produced some lovely writing based on the book and his journey so far under the sea.

In science we investigated whether we thought items would sink and float. Miss Gilbert used some items for a whole class prediction and experiment. There was some really good scientific reasoning from the children. The children then moved to their tables to predict what the 6 items would do and then they put them in water to see if their predictions were correct. Can the children remember what items we used? There were some surprising results...

On Tuesday morning we had our bikeability session. We were split into two groups. One group had a disco where we took it in turns to ride a static bike to generate the music whilst a group was led in a boogie. Everyone had a turn to lead the dancing and ride the bikes. The other group had a chance to ride (or be carried in) a selection of different bikes around a track. We were very impressed with how many children can ride a bike. We all had great fun.

Homework and spellings have been given out, this needs to be handed in on Monday. This is when the spellings will also be tested. Please support and encourage your child to learn these, we would like to see some of the scores improve.

Show and tell will give a hint as to our focus for this term... we would like the children to tell us two things. What is their favourite food and what food do they dislike and why. If the children wish to show this in a creative way that would be fantastic.

A reminder about drinks bottles in school. We still have a number of children who have not got a bottle. Please ensure your child has one at the start of the week, they are taken home on Fridays to be brought back on the Monday.

Also there were a number of girls who didn’t have socks in their PE bags for when they are wearing tights.

If your child has been ill either through sickness or diarrhoea then they need to be clear of illness for 48hrs before they return to school.

Thank you for your support with our new dropping off and collecting system.

A heads up for next week, a letter will follow, but we are asking for each child to bring in an item of fruit on Thursday. We will be making a fruit salad and the donations will enable each child to have a go at cutting and preparing a dish for themselves. An allergy and permission slip will follow.
