As it has been National Poetry Week we have listened to some poems by Michael Rosen. Today we have had a go at writing our own, guided by Simon Mole. Wow they did brilliantly! Especially as this was aimed at KS2. Well done everyone! We also did some alphabet and capital letter work in our grammar lesson.

In maths we have been focusing on one less and looking at different vocabulary like ‘few’ and ‘fewer’. We also revisited one more. The children have coped well switching between the two and using a number line accurately to support them.

Super results with Demeter class’s first spelling test. So many had a go at the challenge as well, great work! The computer nearly exploded with all the dojos being given out! Next week’s have been handed out but someone had dropped theirs. If your child doesn’t have a sheet please see one of us for a spare.

There have been a few issues with Phonics Hero that I have addressed with the account manager I deal with. Hopefully they have now been resolved. Please let me know if you are still experiencing any issues. If you have, please try deleting and reinstalling as the issue may have been corrected with whatever she did to resolve my query. The children are really enjoying it and some have had a chance to use it in class.

We used watercolours in Art this week to continue our mark making exploration.

Thank you for all the donations for harvest festival. The children have enjoyed taking them down to the hall to put with the rest of the school’s donations.

In Jigsaw Jack we were all rewarded with a certificate saying why Miss Gilbert was proud of us.

In music we have put actions and sounds to ‘Old Macdonald’. The children had great fun and gave a brilliant performance. I’m sure they would be happy to show you at home.

It is lovely to see the reading that is done at home by some of the children. Please remember to record every time you hear your child read in the home link diary. It is important for children to read and be heard to read by an adult daily. It helps to support them with their segmenting, blending and recognition of tricky words.

We still have some girls without socks in their PE bags for days that they are wearing tights. Please make sure they have a pair to put in their bag as we don’t have many spare.

Well done to all of those in Demeter who have been pounding the streets to earn their ‘beat the street’ points. Miss Gilbert, Mrs Hay and Miss Watson have also been joining in.

We have some book bags with quite a large selection of key rings. Please could the bags be limited to a small keyring to enable the bags to fit in the drawers. Some of the keyrings are quite large.
