Our lead text this week has been Jack and the Beanstalk which the children have really enjoyed. We have been changing our voices to be the different characters when we have been reading; the children were excellent at being the giant in the story. We have used the puppet pack to retell the story and some of the children have innovated on the story by having dinosaurs in the story climbing the beanstalk. Ava innovated on the story by using a website to change the characters in the story...and she changed them to Mrs Dickens and Mrs Coles. Sounds like lots of fun! Olivia said she had enjoyed using the finger puppets to tell the story.

In Maths, we have been securing our knowledge and understanding of the mathematical concept of  subtraction. We have been securing counting back and using a number line. Any taking away number sentences that you can practise at home will really help the children secure this concept.

Our role play area has been the 'Vets' surgery where the children have been working hard to make the animals better and also to complete the necessary paper work.   Another fantastic week in Iris Class!

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
