This week the children have stayed at school all day and been amazing at learning the new routines and interacting with lots of new friends in Iris Class.

We have been learning about the different parts of our body, including our faces, and we have begun our self-portraits paying particular attention to the colour of our skin, eyes and hair. We have some super artists in Iris Class.

We have been learning some more new letter sounds. We now have 's, a, t, p, i, n, m' and 'd' on our Sea of Sounds and we are beginning to blend the sounds together to make simple words. Any reinforcement of these sounds at home will be really useful for the children to consolidate their learning at home.

The children will be given a Home Learning booklet for them to have a look at with you at home.

We have been making sure that when we are counting real objects we are saying one number name for each object so that our counting is accurate.

A big "thank you" to Mr Coles who has very kindly built us our fantastic Water Wall which the children will be able to access during learning times at school. They have had a go already and have really enjoyed using it. It will help them to work together and solve real-life, practical problems.

Thank you to those parents who have registered for the Interactive Learning Diary (ILD). By Thursday 28th September we have had 13 people register and 5 families have already shared an observation or made a comment. Please register if you have not already as you will then be able to see lots of the lovely things that your child has been learning at school. If you need any help please don't hesitate to ask.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
