Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Consultation evenings this week. It was really lovely to speak to you all again and share all of your children's fantastic achievements.

Autumn is now definitely upon us and the leaves are changing colours. The children have enjoyed physical and number activities using the conkers and the fir cones that the children have been collecting. We have been adding one more to a given number using practical resources e.g. the conkers, the cubes, anything at all and then recognising what that number looks like and trying to move from the concrete, with the resources, to the abstract, without the physical resources. The children have been introduced to some new high frequency or common exception words this week. These are words that we are unable to decode using the sounds that we have been learning. We have also continued to learn some new sounds and we have been working hard to put those sounds together to make and then say the words.

We have been joining materials, especially tubes, by cutting flaps in them to give them a larger surface area to make them stick more easily. A few of the children have made some super creative models.

The final Parent Workshop for this term will be held on Friday 20th October at 2.30pm. It will include how we teach Mathematics to the children in Iris Class as well as lots of handy tips and ideas.

We hope you enjoy the half-term holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 30th October.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
