Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term. The children have come back full of energy and they have remembered the routines and the expectations of school really well.

We have been reinforcing the phonic sounds that we learnt last term this week and using them to blend the sounds and then say the word. The website www.ictgames.co.uk has a couple of good sound button games where the children can have a go at finding the sounds that they need to make the words. We have also been practising how to hold our pencils correctly and how to make dark marks both up and down and round and round. We've even been doing this on paper on the underneath of a table! Some children have gone on to write the sounds that go together to make the words.

In Maths we have been thinking about the key parts of the day and what we do when. For example, "In the morning I..." "In the afternoon I..." "In the evening I..." We have been using the sentence starter to help us to formulate our thoughts and ideas and reinforce the sequence of the day.

We have begun to think about forces, including 'push' and 'pull' and the children have been exploring the magnets along with a range of magnetic and non-magnetic resources.

Please can I remind everyone that the children's water bottles should only contain pure water and if your child wears tights for school please could they have a pair of socks for their PE bags. Thank you. The children have received a new homework booklet along with a purple book in which to complete any homework tasks or letter or number formation.

We are all looking forward to working together with you during the next half term

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
