This week in Iris Class we have all been trying really hard to improve our scissor control, making sure that we are keeping our thumb on the top of the scissors and that it is looking up at us when we cut. Everyone has made great progress with both their scissor control and their engagement and levels of focus.

We have been using body percussion to put together different sounds in a sequence and we have created some super firework pictures both inside and outside. The children came up with lots of describing words when we were talking about how the fireworks sounded and what they looked like.

We have continued to look at some new letter sounds this week and our blending and segmenting has improved and become more accurate. The children all have a set of the first high frequency words to learn to read. These are words that cannot be decoded by using your sounds; you just have to know them. Thank you to those people who are regularly reading with their children and recording it in the School Planner.

We now have every single person registered on the Interactive Learning Diary (ILD) which is fantastic!! Thank you! Please make sure that you regularly check in to the ILD and see what the children have been up to as well as adding your home observations. We love to see them and they really help us to gain a picture of the whole child.

Christmas nativity rehearsals are soon to begin. More information to follow...

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
