How many altogether? is the question we have been asking ourselves this week in Maths. We have been using a variety of resources including dice and dominoes to find out how many there are altogether. We have also been looking at numbers to 2o and trying really hard to remember the number names for 13 and 15.

Our lead text has been 'Farmer Duck' and we have been using puppets, masks and ourselves to act out the story remembering the order of events and what they say. "How goes the work?" was a question that the lazy farmer asked lots of times. In phonics we have been introduced to the 'ee ' and the 'or' digraphs and we have been working really hard to find all three sounds for a word. The children have made super progress with this. Well done everyone!

The children in Iris Class are now part of the whole school 'Reading Buddies' initiative where, on a weekly basis, the children read and share books with the older children in small groups. The children seem to have really enjoyed it and look forward to reading with their 'buddy.'

Thank you to the Mums, Dads and Grandparents who came to the first Parent Workshop with the children. It was lovely to see you and we hope you enjoyed the opportunity to learn a bit more about the teaching of reading and to spend some time within our classroom. The children were all shining stars!

The next workshop is on Wednesday 31st January at 2.45 and 'Writing,' especially letter formation and handwriting, will be the focus. Followed next term by an additional Writing Workshop' with a focus on the content of writing, on Friday 2nd March at 9am and 'Come and Play with Number and Shape' on Wednesday 14th March at 2.45pm.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

These websites will help your child to practise skills that they have been learning at school.
