The children have loved our 'Duck in the Truck' lead text this week. The familiar characters have helped them to gain confidence in their acting out and retelling of the story as well as the phonic sounds that they need to write about the plot. We have written speech bubbles for the characters as well as retelling part of the story in writing and also asking the various characters questions to find out more about them. We have had some amazing superstar writers this week. Well done everyone!

The children have this week visited our school library and chosen a book to read at home. A big thank you to Mrs Greasley for helping the children. These books will be changed approximately every three weeks, just like the real library so please remember to look after them and bring them back. Thank you.

We have been using a variety of resources to help us practically take away this week in maths. How many objects have you got? Can you take away 4? How many have you got left? We've been using the vocabulary 'taking away, how many left? less, equals, the same as.' Keep practising your number recognition so that you know what each of the numbers to 20 look like.

Thank you to those people who were able to attend the 'Come and Write' workshop this week. It was lovely to see so many people. The children really enjoyed it and I hope you all learnt something new.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
