Captain Duck had a few problems in our lead text this week. Captain Duck, Sheep and Frog all got washed out to sea and had to try and get back. The children have joined in with the refrains brilliantly and they have acted out the story using masks. Some of the children have had a go at writing a postcard from one of the characters in the story. They have been using their phonic knowledge really well We've had frogs in the water along with stones, rocks and seaweed, we've created an underwater scene on enormous paper in the outside area and we have been building vehicles, for the animals that have been lost at sea, to keep them safe.

In Maths we have been taking away practically with a variety of objects and moving on to take away by crossing out objects on the paper and writing the correct numeral for the amount that was left. We have been using 1p and 2p coins to make amounts up to 10p. Remember to touch the 2p coin twice because it's worth 2p.

Please keep reading over the holiday so the children come back ready for learning and ready to fly. Research shows that children who regularly practise their reading and spellings at home make more progress and feel much more confident in themselves. Enjoy the half term break. We look forward to seeing you on Monday 19th February.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
