In Iris class this week we have continued to think about our lead text Rainbow Fish from last week to make our colour mixing purposeful, with some very dramatic results, you won’t miss it! Also this week we have been looking more closely at the Easter Story from the Christian Bible. All of the children can retell the story in words and pictures and lots have produced some wonderful writing too.

Whilst we have kept a completely open view about the story it has provoked some very thoughtful conversations. Kurt thought the whole concept was ‘rather confusing’ Kajus thought ‘It was a bit sad’ Lottie considered ‘The soldiers to be rather mean’ and Teagan felt ‘The ending was happy.’ Of course a quick cuddle with our chicks has given us all another thought about Easter and most are looking forward to chocolate! It was lovely to see some of you on Tuesday, we hope you enjoyed sharing your children’s work. Everyone agreed that the progress the children have made since being in Iris Class has been amazing. We are very proud of all of them too.

Home Learning

Once the Induction Period has been completed and the children are in full time attendance they will each receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete on a weekly basis. The most important of which is to read to, and with, your child every day. In addition to this there is a poem to learn to say, sounds and words to recognise and read and a mathematical activity to complete. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
