Welcome back to Autumn 2 in Iris Class. It was lovely to meet so many of you at the Parent Consultation Day on Monday and share the children's progress and achievements with you.

We have begun the theme for this term by looking for items that we can push and pull. We've had a search around the Iris Class learning environment and also around the school looking for 'pushes' and 'pulls.' See if you can find any at home or when you're out and about.

We have been working hard to hear spoken sounds and then blend them together to make a word. We have also been segmenting sounds to spell words using the large magnetic letters.

We have been introduced to the concept of 'four' and have begun our learning to find out all about 'four' including the shapes, squares, oblongs and rectangles, with four sides and four corners.

The children have created a display about the story of the Three Little Pigs making straw, stick and brick houses and thinking of words to describe the resources used in the story.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
