This week we have been looking at the lead text, 'The Jigaree.' The repeating refrain in the book has been, 'I can see...' The children have been making binoculars as a stimulus for their writing and seeing who or what they can through their binoculars. The children were encouraged to select their own method of joining cylinders and attaching string for their final product. Some of the children have been wearing them all the time! They have also used their binoculars to look for patterns in our learning environment. We have looked for patterns that repeat and patterns that do not repeat. They enjoyed creating their own unusual patterns for animals as well as the usual ones you might see on animals at the zoo.

Our new phonic sounds have been 'th' and 'ng' this week and we have continued to practise blending sounds together and segmenting them for spelling. Lots of the children have made amazing progress with the skills of blending and segmenting but any extra help at home would really help them to consolidate these skills.

Thanks you for the costumes we have had in for the nativity. the dress rehearsal is next week so please ensure that all of them are in school as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
