We have been making a variety of different vehicles this week using a number of different materials. We asked the question, "What is a vehicle?" and the children wanted to know if a hot air balloon was indeed a vehicle too. "How about a boat?" someone asked. We came to the conclusion that they are both vehicles as they can transport people along with cargo. This has come from our lead text stimulus of 'Duck in the Truck.' We have been thinking about rhyming words and the children have really got to grips with our phonics this week. Remember that 'sh' is a digraph and makes only one sound along with 'ee,' 'or,' and all of the other digraphs we have learnt so far.

Making seven in a variety of ways and finding out the two parts of seven has been our maths focus this week. The children have explored this by using numicon, frogs, tens frames and a variety of other resources including animals to show the two parts of seven.

For one week only, next week, we will be moving our spelling challenge to Thursday. Sorry for an inconvenience.

Thank you to those people who have added photos and text to the Interactive Learning Diary. They are invaluable in assessing the whole child.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
