We have all had a fantastic first week back at school in Iris Class learning all about 'Under the Sea.' This has been our whole school theme that each class has been learning about but with a slightly different focus. We have used the Rainbow Fish story to base our learning around this week. We have read the story and thought about our school values that the characters in the story were showing. Muhammed knew that the little blue fish was showing the value of 'kindness.' We have painted our very own Rainbow Fish; some of us have added lots of shimmery scales and some of us just one shimmery scale. We had to choose our colours carefully to paint the pretty scales. We have been counting sea creatures and writing the correct numeral. We have built our own big boat where we created stories, we used the sand in our small world play and also sea creatures, shells and stones in the water. The concepts of floating and sinking were also explored.

A few reminders-
Spellings will continue to happen on a Tuesday. Please start with the core list and if your child can independently spell those words then move to the challenge. If they need additional reinforcement with the core words stay with those. Remember there is always the extension task as well if you can spell all of the words.

The children will all take part in the balance bike sessions on Monday.

Thursday is World Book Day where the children are encouraged to dress up as a book character or something relating to a book.

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
