This week we have excitedly begun our rehearsals for the Iris Class assembly to which you are all invited. It will take place on Monday 8th July at 3pm in the school hall. The children have mostly learnt their words and they are getting more confident each time we rehearse. We are all very much looking forward to it and we hope lots of you will be able to join us.

Describing characters and expanding our vocabulary has been a focus this week in English. The children have been confidently and accurately using a range of new words when thinking about the types of characters in the story of Little Red Riding Hood and additional stories we have read this week. Some of the children have written some brilliant extended retellings of the story. Real progress in their pace and motivation to keep going. Just make sure those tricky words don't trick you! This week the word, 'said' was particularly tricky.

"Is it an addition or subtraction equation?" is a question we've been asking this week. Lots of amazing accurate calculations from the children. Just make sure those numerals are round the right way when you write them down.

Please keep reading and practising spellings with your child. Let's see if we can improve our spelling scores for next week!

Home Learning

At the beginning of each new term the children will receive a booklet of home learning tasks and activities for them to complete and work on each week. The most important part of home learning is to talk with your child, read to, and with your child, every day and record this in their School Planners and allow them to think for themselves and develop their independence skills. After Christmas, as the children become developmentally ready, they will each have a small number of simple words to learn to spell each week.

How you can help!

Help to develop questioning skills and encouraging the children to record their own independent learning would really help the children.
